Upon graduation, you will be eligible to sit for credentialing exams to achieve licensure as a Respiratory Technician or Respiratory Therapist and you will be qualified to work in:

What Will You Learn?
As a respiratory therapist practicing under the care of a physician, you will evaluate and treat all types of patients, ranging from premature infants whose lungs are not fully developed to elderly people who suffer from lung disease, all made possible with the skill and professionalism achieved at ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳.
Through this program, students will be able to:
- Function within inter-professional teams and communicate effectively with diverse populations.
- Demonstrate competence in performing all respiratory care diagnostic and therapeutic procedures required of a respiratory therapist entering the profession. Demonstrate competence in the application of problem-solving strategies in the patient care setting.
- Display competence in the application of ethical decision-making and professional responsibility.
- Demonstrate leadership skills and knowledge related to the management of healthcare services.

Program Requirements
To be part of this program, students are required to have:
- A pre-entrance physical examination, annual physical examination, and required immunizations. Students must also meet the specified health requirements of individual clinical agencies.
- A background check and drug screening.
- Completed courses in algebra, biology, and chemistry.
- Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
- Transportation to and from the clinical sites.
- Acceptance is predicated on a space-available basis

Accreditation
The Bachelor of Science Degree Program in Respiratory Care at ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care.
COARC Program # 200369
The Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care became a freestanding accreditor of respiratory care programs in November 2009. CoARC-accredited respiratory therapy education programs in the United States. To achieve this end, it utilizes an 'outcomes-based' process. Programmatic outcomes are performance indicators that reflect the extent to which the program meets necessary educational goals and by which program effectiveness is documented.
Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for the written and clinical simulation examinations given by the National Board for Respiratory Care. Upon passing these exams, graduates earn the Certified

Credentialing/ Licensure
ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳’s respiratory care program is approved by New York State and meets the requirements for initial licensure or credentialing. Other state boards and state licensing authorities may have different initial licensure/credentialing requirements.
Students who reside in states other than New York, or who will seek employment outside of New York State, should contact that state’s licensing authority before enrolling, to confirm meeting eligibility requirements for an initial credential or licensure in that state after completing our program. ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ has not determined whether completion of the university’s respiratory care, nuclear medicine technology, or cardiovascular technology programs meets the educational requirements to apply for initial licensure or credentialing in states other than New York.
